Today you will check out and proceed to the village of Kintamani, the best spot, weather permitting, for views of Mount Batur, an active volcano which sits alongside Lake Batur. Scanning the horizon from left to right, you will observe that Kintamani sits on the caldera rim of a huge volcano, and Mount Batur, directly in front of you, is merely a ‘small’ mountain that has been created by thousands of years of volcanic activity. Enjoy a lunch served in a restaurant overlooking the volcano while you ponder on the mighty forces of Mother Nature that created this vista.
One of today’s highlights is the visit to the Hindu Besakih temple, known as the ‘mother temple of Bali’. Over one-thousand years old, the temple is situated at around 1,000 metres on the volcanic slopes of Mount Agung, the island’s largest mountain. Besakih is Bali’s largest temple comprising 23 individual but related temples. Every day pilgrims can be seen praying at this house of worship and, on special ceremonial days, there could be thousands of people here paying their respects to their gods.
Continue to drive to Penglipuran, a well-ordered village surrounded by plantations and bamboo forests. A Bali Aga village, the local community still adhere to the strict rules and regulations (known as the Adat) that were laid down by their ancestors many centuries ago. Tradition and time-honoured ways are still very important here and you will have time to explore this enthralling settlement before moving onto your hotel in Ubud area to check in and overnight.

Your walk today starts at the north side of Campuhan ridge. The ridge sits between two rivers, the Cerik and Wos, and arguably is one of the best trekking routes around Ubud. This area has been considered a holy place for centuries. Enjoy the peaceful scenery while you walk between the tall green grasses.
Continue south while indulging the scenery of the rice paddy views and farming activities at the nearby villagers until you arrive at Gunung Lebah (small hill) Temple. The temple, a subak temple (dedicated to the regulation of the water used in the rice paddies) was constructed in the 8th century and started the development of the settlement later to become Ubud.
End your walk this morning by hopping on your vehicle before heading onwards to the Royal Palace in the centre of the town. The local royal family still resides in this interesting palace, but you are free to wander around most of the compound, discovering the ornate architecture and learning about the Asta Kosala Kosali tradition of house building, a method not dissimilar to the ancient art of Feng Shui.
Across the street you will find the Ubud Art Market, a great place to find beautiful silk scarves, lightweight shirts, statues, kites, handmade woven bags, baskets or hats and many other hand-crafted goods at a bargain. Most of the goods found at the market are made in the neighbouring villages.
The last stop today is Ubud Monkey Forest, a lush nature reserve and temple complex on the outskirts of Ubud. The forest is home to more than one hundred species of trees, several interesting temples, and hundreds of crab-eating macaque monkeys (*).
Here you can spend a while observing their characteristics and mannerisms before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant and then return to your hotel.
(*) The macaque monkeys here can be a considerable annoyance. Please heed the advice from your guide on the precautions you should take when visiting temples or forests inhabited by monkeys.
This tour is considered easy as it only involves walking on flat surfaces. It is therefore suitable for everyone, regardless of their fitness level. Nonetheless, we suggest starting early to beat the heat.

Next is a visit to Tegalalang, renowned for its stunning terraced rice fields that are a testament to the traditional Balinese agricultural practices and enjoy lunch in a local restaurant with a unique concept that embraces the beauty of nature.
Continue to Tirta Empul Temple, located a little north of Ubud, this revered temple is also known as Tampak Siring temple and famous among Balinese Hindus for its holy waters which are believed to wash away any bad spirits. Return to your hotel.

Your excursion today begins after checking out from your hotel then drive into Central Bali and small town of Mengwi. Long associated with the Balinese Royal Family, Mengwi is home to the superb temple complex at Taman Ayun. Translating as ‘beautiful garden’ Taman Ayun is considered by many to be one of island’s most attractive temples and is still used today by people from all over Bali for special ceremonies and events.
Next head to Alas Kedaton Monkey Forest. This small forest is populated with giant nutmeg trees and home to hundreds of macaque monkeys (*). Spend a while observing their characteristics and mannerisms before heading south to the island’s most famous temple complex at Tanah Lot.
With its spectacular location, Tanah Lot is an integral part of Balinese mythology and one of seven sea temples that are said to form a ‘chain’ around the island. The temple is only accessible at low tide but despite its offshore location in the Indian Ocean, it features a freshwater spring at its base which is said to contain holy water.
As a result, the temple is extremely sacred and Balinese visit from all over the island to drink the water and splash it over their bodies to cleanse themselves of any bad spirits. The temple’s inner sanctum is located on top of the rocky outcrop and only accessible to Balinese Hindus. You will arrive in time for sunset when photographic opportunities abound while enjoying a refreshing of young coconut.

Uluwatu Temple & Cliffside Dining Experience
After checking out from your hotel, embark on a journey to the southernmost tip of Bali to visit the iconic Uluwatu Temple (*). One of seven sea temples believed to form a spiritual chain around the island, Uluwatu is one of Bali’s most revered places of worship. Perched dramatically atop a 70-meter-high cliff, the temple offers breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and serves as a spectacular vantage point to watch the powerful waves crash against the rock face below.
A highlight of your visit is the chance to witness the traditional Kecak dance performance, held regularly at the temple. This captivating ritual involves up to a hundred male performers chanting rhythmically in unison, forming a hypnotic circle. The dance narrates a dramatic episode from the ancient Hindu epic, the Ramayana, where King Rahwana captures Sita, the wife of Rama, leading to a fierce battle with the monkey god, Hanuman.
Following the performance, enjoy a short drive to a cliffside dining venue with stunning ocean views, offering a perfect end to the day. Afterwards, you will be transferred to your next hotel for check-in and overnight stay.
