Doi Inthanon National Park Full Day

Doi Inthanon, the highest peak in Thailand, rises to an impressive 2,565 meters (8,415 feet) above sea level. This elevation results in cool, refreshing temperatures year-round, with winter temperatures often dipping below freezing (October to February). Doi Inthanon National Park is a true natural gem, featuring rugged mountain terrain, lush tropical forests, powerful rivers, and breathtaking waterfalls. The park's protected status makes it a haven for wildlife, and it is considered one of the best bird-watching destinations in Thailand. Over 362 species of birds inhabit the park, many of which are found nowhere else in the country.

Doi Inthanon National Park is a popular day-trip destination, offering stunning scenery, evergreen forests, and diverse habitats. The park is renowned for its birdwatching opportunities, with nearly 400 bird species, many migrating from North Asia, including mountain hawks and Eurasian woodcocks. The journey to the top of the mountain is along a scenic, winding road, where you’ll stop for photos at the summit—standing at 2,565 meters above sea level, the highest point in Thailand.

Take a short walk along the Ang Ka Nature Trail, a circular boardwalk through a magical, mossy, and lush forest—thanks to the cool, misty climate. Other highlights on the route include a visit to a Karen hill tribe village, the impressive Wachiratharn Waterfall, and the iconic twin chedi, built by the Thai Air Force to commemorate the 60th birthdays of King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit. The chedis stand on opposite hills, about 100 meters (330 feet) apart, and each houses exquisitely crafted Buddha images and detailed tiled murals.

On clear days, the views from the chedis are spectacular, although cloud cover or fog can often obscure the landscape. The area has been home to various hill tribes for centuries, and many continue to live there, preserving their ancient way of life. At the base of the peaks, you'll find Hmong villages, where the people, thanks to the Royal Project, have shifted from growing opium poppies to cultivating commercial crops such as vegetables and flowers.
